I have worked with Britt Jones Co. on some incredible editorials, from the Dallas Arboretum to Virgin Hotels Dallas. Every single time she raises the bar. When she asked me to be part of an editorial at Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan, it was an immediate yes. This hotel has been on my radar and after spending two days inside that building, I completely understand why.
Hotel Chelsea is one of those New York City venues that does not need to try hard. Built in 1884, the hotel has hosted artists, and writers for over a century. That history lives throughout every corner of the building. Perfect for couples who want a NYC hotel wedding that feels genuinely one-of-a-kind and not just another ballroom. Hotel Chelsea delivers something you cannot replicate anywhere else in the city.

The Night Before: A Welcome Party in Cave à Vin
The editorial kicked off the evening before the main wedding day with a welcome party. Cave à Vin at Hotel Chelsea is exactly what you want from a New York rehearsal dinner venue. Mahogany paneled walls, rich brass details, an adjoining Solarium Bar with a glass ceiling and white-painted brick. Fill the space with candles and make every guest feel like they are at the chicest dinner party in the city.
Britt’s design for the evening leaned into golden tones with vibrant pops of yellow from One Flower By L’s florals that I could not stop photographing. The arrangements mixed bright orchid-like blooms with dark burgundy textures, the kind of contrast that looks incredible against candlelight. Twisted pink taper candles added warmth and a little unexpected fun to the tablescape. The place settings from Maison de Carine were layered and thoughtful. While the stationery from Ivy and Linen Design added that personal, heirloom quality that Britt always insists on.
The overall palette for the welcome party was golden, merlot, and warm brown. This played so well against the mahogany walls and the existing brass fixtures of Cave à Vin. There was nothing generic about this table. Every element was chosen to feel cohesive with the room, not just placed inside it.
What I love about starting with a welcome party is how it sets the tone for the full wedding weekend. Guests arrive in New York, settle into the hotel. Then their first impression of the celebration is a room that looks and feels like this. That matters. And for couples considering Hotel Chelsea for a multi-day wedding weekend, the property gives you every space you need to do it right.

The Wedding Day: The Bard Room
The main wedding editorial took place in the Bard Room, named for Stanley Bard, Hotel Chelsea’s legendary former owner and manager. The room has original architectural details, antique brass chandeliers, arched windows, and walls with moody chinoiserie murals that have a life of their own. It holds up to 100 guests for a reception and has a private entrance, which is a great feature for couples who want a bit of an exclusive feel on their wedding day.
Britt designed this space around a refined palette of pink, blue, and brown, with iridescent accents woven throughout. The linens from Nuage Designs and napkins from BBJ La Tavola anchored the table. At the same time, the tabletop pieces from Maison de Carine brought a fashion-forward layering to each place setting. The florals from One Flower By L were structured and sculptural, with blooms in blush, burgundy, and rust. One Flower By L is a New York-based floral studio, and this is exactly the kind of editorial that shows what they can do in a space like this.
The stationery suite from Ivy and Linen Design for the Caldwell-Dalton wedding was stunning. Crushed blue velvet and a marbled blue-gray invitation with calligraphed script, paired with tasseled menu booklets in deep mauve that sat at each place setting. The level of detail in that paper was something guests would notice immediately.
The cake from Ferrara Bakery, an iconic Little Italy institution in NYC since 1892, was a nod to the city itself. There is something special about choosing a vendor with that kind of history for a New York wedding.

Portraits at Hotel Chelsea
One of my favorite parts of shooting a wedding at Hotel Chelsea is the exterior. The hotel’s wrought iron balconies overlooking West 23rd Street, with the red-and-white striped awning and the gold “HOTEL CHELSEA” sign, make for portraits that could not look like anything other than New York. We worked both inside the hotel rooms and out on those balconies with our couple. These images are some of my favorites from the entire editorial!
Inside the rooms, the vintage-feeling interiors give you a completely different vibe from the event spaces downstairs. The ornate headboards, warm lamp tones, and layered textiles create a softer, more editorial moment that photographs beautifully. If you are getting married at Hotel Chelsea and have not thought about portraits into the hotel rooms, add it to the list.

Why Hotel Chelsea Works for a Boutique Hotel Wedding in NYC
There are a lot of hotel wedding venues in New York City, and most of them feel like hotel wedding venues. Hotel Chelsea is different. The history, the art, the moody interiors, and the way each space has its own distinct personality make it a genuine backdrop for a wedding gallery, not just a neutral room to decorate.
The Bard Room works for intimate weddings with a seated dinner, while Cave à Vin is ideal for a rehearsal dinner, welcome party, or a more private celebration for a smaller guest count. The hotel rooms add another layer for getting-ready photos, bridal portraits, or even a late-night exit moment. You can use this property in a lot of ways, and Britt Jones Co. showed that across two days of shooting.
If you are a couple considering a Hotel Chelsea Manhattan wedding, the question is not whether the venue is beautiful enough. It absolutely is. The question is making sure you have the right team around you to capture it.
