Faiz and Justin’s engagement session was at the Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn, New York City. Prospect Park is one of my favorite locations for engagement sessions and weddings. It’s a small piece of green in the middle of the city. The historical architecture of Prospect Park makes for the perfect backdrop for a romantic engagement session. We started the session in front of the boathouse catching sweet looks in between the window arches, then continued walking along the bridge to take pictures in front of the small waterfall. We finished the engagement session at a local bar getting a drink.
I love being able to take both engagement pictures as well as wedding pictures for my couples; it is so fun to follow my clients throughout their wedding journey. What makes engagement sessions different from other wedding and engagement photographers is we take two hours together so my couples can slowly start to get comfortable in front of the camera as if we are on an extended date. I’m just a long, capturing the moments. I always encourage my couples to go to places that mean something to them: a park they have been to, a coffee shop, or a bar they frequent. That way, I can capture my couples in places they actually go to and have special memories together.
When planning your engagement session, consider if you are looking to take pictures inside or outside. Think of places you and your partner love to visit and any restaurants or parks you have gone to on dates. These are the places that you will want to capture and remember forever. Let your photographer know of these places, and they will help you plan your session around these locations if they can. If you are unsure of a good spot for pictures, always reach out to your photographer and ask what they recommend. Make sure you have a vibe in mind for your photos from downtown city pictures or out in nature; your photographer should have some recommendations that you can rely on for your engagement session.
